The German financial sanctions list in Justizportal
Last updated:
The financial sanctions list in Justizportal (German federal/state justice portal) shows EU financial sanctions, free of charge and without registration. It does not show other countries’ lists, such as the US or UK list: in our sample, it found 0 out of 100 companies on the US list. Whether other lists apply to your business depends on the circumstances.
What does the financial sanctions list show?
The financial sanctions list at finanz-sanktionsliste.de is part of the German federal/state justice portal. It contains individuals and companies subject to EU financial sanctions, for example under EU Regulation 881/2002 and other EU sanctions regulations. Searching is free and requires no registration. According to the portal, a match merely means that a name is identical or similar.
What does it leave out?
Other countries’ lists, such as the US list (OFAC SDN) or the UK list, are not included. This is not an error: the portal shows EU financial sanctions, as intended. Whether the US or UK list is relevant to your business depends on the circumstances, such as US components in a product, a payment in US dollars or a customer in the UK.
Does Justizportal find companies on other sanctions lists?
Sample dated 4 October 2026
We searched Justizportal for 100 companies on the US list and absent from the EU list. We selected companies that supply German businesses or provide services to them: manufacturers and dealers in machine tools, lasers, bearings and electronics, metal traders and freight forwarders. Most are based in China, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates. The portal found 0 out of 100. This is not a portal error: these companies are absent from the EU list.

How we carried out the sample
- Downloaded the US list (OFAC SDN), EU financial sanctions list and UK list from the official authorities on the same day.
- Standardised all company names and aliases and compared them using exact and fuzzy matching.
- Selected the 100 companies listed only on the US list with the greatest relevance to German industrial and trading businesses: based in an important trading partner country without an embargo; industry according to the US list or company name (machinery, electronics, metal, chemicals, wholesale, logistics); listed for circumventing Russia sanctions through third countries or procuring dual-use goods. Applied a maximum per country to ensure more than one country was represented.
- Searched each name in the financial sanctions list on 4 October 2026 and saved the results page with the time.
How do I document a check?
Your records should include the name checked, date and time, lists used, result and who performed the check. If there is a match, also record how you assessed it and what action followed. Am I Compliant saves these details for each check as a PDF with a verification URL.
